Custom Dog Collars
How we make them...
Below are pictures of this collar while under construction
Selecting a font for the lettering, transferring to tracing paper and then laying it out on the collar can be a challenge, while the leather is wet I then the letters into the leather with my swivel knife and bevel the edges of the letters to add dimension
After I have all the letters tooled I begin to shape the collar, in this case the collar was built around the award lettering
After I cut the collar to the shape I want I then add accents, in this case I opted to encase the letters and allow a space for some small conchos
Now I can apply my first layer of leather dye. I felt that dyeing the collar saddle tan followed by an antique finish would accent the lettering nicely
I have now applied the Antique top coat. When the antique coat dries I will apply a light coat of saddle oil followed by a finish coat. I will then use black latigo leather to line the back of the collar, stitch it, burnish the edges, apply conchoes, buckles and Dee's.
